Leadership Strategies: Better to Make Headlines or Make a Difference?

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Last week the buzz about Jon Gosselin participating in our Total Leadership Connections program was over the top. The fact that I am presently outlining a yet to be names book with him drew lots of attention.

Jon and I talked about what the pull is to check out his every move. I became intrigues with the types of media comments from folks who picked up the initial article and put their own spin to it.

Friday, June 18th, 2010

In “Don’t Bring It to Work” I discuss the 13 behavior patterns that follow us from our original organization, the family into our work organization.

The BIG, I mean BIG question is “Why do we keep doing the same things over and over and over and over and over“?

Leadership Challenges: I’m Sorry, I Messed Up!

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

I just saw a news bulletin that BP apologized for its mess. Certainly took long enough. Yet, there are so many who need to apologize, including Halliburton and other subcontractors.

In any case, apologies do help when they are made with the intention of setting things right. We will see how big oil does in the days to come.

Workplace Conflict and Collaboration

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Think about going into a room where you do not know anyone. What is your initial reaction? Do you stand on the side to get a sense of the others in the room? Perhaps you move quickly to the beverages and feel safer with a drink in your hand. Are you one who would go to the first person you see, extend your hand to shake and begin a conversation?

Now, think about your work environment. How do you respond to your co-workers? Are you prone to keep to yourself? How do you show interest in others with whom you work? Are there a few you talk with and simply nod to the rest? How well do you know or how well are you known by those you meet and greet almost every day?

I am watching so many people begin to brighten up as the spring sun smiles down warmth, the days become longer for early evening walks, and flowers show their stuff, in red, yellow, lilac, and bright orange.

Leadership and Proper Boundaries

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Are school teachers only meant to teach children spelling, calculus, and ancient history? Or are they also meant to be role models for how to behave as youngsters grow and become the next generation of business men and women?

We put these young people in schools to prepare them for the world of work. We hope the learning in school is both for skills as well as interpersonal relationships. So, what happened last week in New Jersey is particularly upsetting.

Leadership and Early Adapters

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The following video has gone viral and is lots of fun to watch. It teaches some good lessons about the “first follower” as a leader. These early adapters are visionaries in their own right, and help make a movement happen.

In the video, we are talking about dancing at the beach: lots of fun and freedom and spontaneity. I would like to present a question and would love responses from all who are thinking about the ethics of followership.

Tillit and Other Palindromes

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Got your attention?  I hope so. The palindrome for you to watch is an important reminder that when we look with new eyes, the context of the world changes in the blink of our eyes. Read it forwards and then read the same words backwards and see what changes occur inside you.
