Lindsey Lohan: Patterns that Repeat

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Why do we do the same things over and over and expect different results? Einstein called this the definition of insanity!

I was deeply saddened to see that Lindsey Lohan is going the route that leads to a dead end path. Better if she could be helped to get to the root of what is driving her. It will not happen in jail or in traditional rehab. Her father Michael went that route and, as he said on Larry King Live, it didn’t get to the root of his personal issues.

Leadership and Change: Ready on a Moment’s Notice

Friday, June 25th, 2010

I must really be getting old! I remember when tornadoes were only meant to happen in Kansas. In past years most of us watched “The Wizard of Oz” and went along with Dorothy on her journey, yet it was just a story, right?

While tornadoes indicate sudden change and danger they were “out there” in pockets of the country. They were meant to be in Kansas, not Connecticut. Well, not until this week anyway.

Workplace Conflict Can Be a Good Thing

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

We are deeply into the second session of our 44th Total Leadership Connections program and I am still amazed when the dots between our backgrounds and work issues become clear.

In the present group is a young woman who grew up in a communist country and we had the privilege of hearing a first hand report of the tests and trials her family had to endure.

Workplace Conflict and Father’s Day

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Hope all of you dads had a play day yesterday; and, even more importantly, that you were recognized and appreciated.

If you are an older dad, did you live in the “no guilt” zone? Or were there memories of missed little league games, missed school plays, missed opportunities to talk, really talk with the kids?

In “Don’t Bring It to Work” I discuss the 13 behavior patterns that follow us from our original organization, the family into our work organization.

The BIG, I mean BIG question is “Why do we keep doing the same things over and over and over and over and over“?

Leadership and “It’s All About Me”

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Think about a moment when someone is judging a situation that seems untenable and you think “What did I do to make this so awful?”

Happens to the best of us; happens to all of us. What is the best way to handle the emotions that bubble up? Many become “the stuffers” and let the unpleasant feelings gurgle and gnaw at the solar plexus right above the stomach. That is why anti-acids are such great over the counter sellers.

Leadership and Sankofa Mapping

Ever get annoyed with someone and say, usually with indignation “Who do you think you are?” There is a new television series by that name that gives the question a whole new meaning.

The Boy Who Became St. Patrick

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

I’ll bet you see more people of every denomination wearing a bit of green today. Well, maybe the same color will be well represented on Earth Day. In any case, St. Patrick’s Day is known for parades, beer and lots of fun.

I did some research to find out who is the man behind the myth and there are quite a few interesting facts. At the age of 16 he was kidnapped by a band of pirates from his native land of the Roman British Isles and sold into slavery.
