Leadership Theory

Leadership Theory

After spending days looking at the media frenzy around Mel Gibson and Lindsay Lohan I must admit I could not even look at the rash of media mentions around Levi and Bristol and Sarah Palin. I needed some deeper nutrition and found it in Ron White’s article about leadership theories. I was just wondering what would happen if we stopped obsessing with celebrities that keep us feasting on cotton candy and really all began to dig our teeth in the work of people with substance. And yet, I am still curious to know why so many spend so much time discussing the antics of those who behave badly. In any case, take a few minutes and get some healthy reading under your belt today.

What Do Coaches Coach?

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

This past week has been fascinating in terms of learning how the media works. It is not so much having something written about me, that has been done and it is always fun to see a book review about “Don’t Bring It to Work” or an article like the one in The Wall Street Journal a month ago.

That is so different from what has happened this week. I was asked to do an interview with radaronline.com. It is not the usual place you will find me. However, there I was talking with a reporter about one of the participants in our Total Leadership Connections program.

Lindsey Lohan: Patterns that Repeat

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Why do we do the same things over and over and expect different results? Einstein called this the definition of insanity!

I was deeply saddened to see that Lindsey Lohan is going the route that leads to a dead end path. Better if she could be helped to get to the root of what is driving her. It will not happen in jail or in traditional rehab. Her father Michael went that route and, as he said on Larry King Live, it didn’t get to the root of his personal issues.

To Know You is to Love You

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Hey, take a minute and look in the mirror. Not to judge, just to look. Now, what do you see?

Most of us will start with what is wrong. Sad but true. We live in a sort and judge, sort and judge world. We come from a fix and hide, fix and hide society. Think about teeth; how white is white enough? Why should teeth be super white anyway?

Leadership and Change: Ready on a Moment’s Notice

Friday, June 25th, 2010

I must really be getting old! I remember when tornadoes were only meant to happen in Kansas. In past years most of us watched “The Wizard of Oz” and went along with Dorothy on her journey, yet it was just a story, right?

While tornadoes indicate sudden change and danger they were “out there” in pockets of the country. They were meant to be in Kansas, not Connecticut. Well, not until this week anyway.

Leadership and Early Adapters

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The following video has gone viral and is lots of fun to watch. It teaches some good lessons about the “first follower” as a leader. These early adapters are visionaries in their own right, and help make a movement happen.

In the video, we are talking about dancing at the beach: lots of fun and freedom and spontaneity. I would like to present a question and would love responses from all who are thinking about the ethics of followership.

Valentines for Moms

An important part of what we teach in our Total Leadership Connections Program is that it is an illusion to think we can separate who we are at home from who we are at work. That split causes a multitude of emotional and even physical issues for lots of people.

Even more, we teach that what we do in our present work organization is most definitely based on what we learned in our original organization – the family.

Tillit and Other Palindromes

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Got your attention?  I hope so. The palindrome for you to watch is an important reminder that when we look with new eyes, the context of the world changes in the blink of our eyes. Read it forwards and then read the same words backwards and see what changes occur inside you.

Unhappy at Work

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Months ago I posted a blog on why women are so unhappy at work. I am still getting responses, even though most “older blogs” are put out to pasture by the end of the day they are conceived and birthed.

I have been thinking about why there is so much gloom and doom about getting up in the morning, going to a place where we are being asked to roll up our sleeves, produce and create, and then go home for an evening of feeling full and having been useful.
